MLB: Trade Tracker as Deadline Nears

TRADE: Rangers’ Jeremy Jeffress dealt back to Milwaukee, who traded him to Texas last year.

REPORTS: Addison Reed has been acquired by the Boston Red Sox for three unknown prospects.

TRADE: Veteran starting pitcher has once again been traded, this time to the AL East. Garcia has been dealt from the Twins for prospects Zack Littel and Deitrek Enns. The Yankees will only have to pay the pro-rated minimum.

TRADE: The Chicago Cubs have acquired catcher Alex Avila and reliever Justin Wilson for top prospect Jeimer Candelario, Isaac Parades and a PLTBN

TRADE: The Kansas City Royals have acquired All-Star left fielder Melky Cabrera for prospects AJ Puckett and Andre Davis.

TRADE: The Colorado Rockies have acquired All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy for PTBN later.

TRADES: Tampa Bay has made a huge splash today acquiring both 1B Lucas Duda and Reliever Dan Jennings. Jennings, acquired from The White Sox for 1B Prospect Casey Gillaspie, is 3rd in the league in ERA since 2015 (only behind Zach Britton and Andrew Miller). Duda is one of the most potent lefty-handed first basemen offensively and adds depth if Morrison gets injured down the stretch. He acquired from the Mets for righty prospect Drew Smith.

TRADE: The Colorado Rockies have acquired reliever Pat Neshek from the Phillies for SS Jose Gomez, RHPs Alejandro Requena and J.D. Hammer. The Phillies also sent the Rockies cash.

BREAKING: The Boston Red Sox are set to acquire All-Star 3B Eduardo Nunez from the San Francisco Giants per Ken Rosenthol. When the other names are announced, we’ll keep you updated.

TRADE: The Royals have traded All-Star pitcher Travis Wood, Pitcher Matt Strahm and Prospect Esteury Ruiz to The San Diego Padres for closer Brandon Maurer, SP Trevor Cahill and reliever Ryan Buchter.

TRADE: The Rays have acquired veteran reliever Sergio Romo from the Los Angeles Dodgers. This will be the first time in his career that he’s played outside of California and the Rays do not look to be done.

TRADE: The Seattle Mariners have acquired minor league LHP Marco Gonzales from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for minor league OF Tyler O’Neill. O’Niell was the second best prospect in the Mariners’ system, according to MLB Pipeline. Gonzales was 18th in the Cardinals’ system.
TRADE: The Minnesota Twins have acquired veteran starter Jaime Garcia from Atlanta. This is Garcia’s first season in a Braves uniform since being acquired by St Louis this past offseason. The return has yet to be announced, but the consensus is that it’s a minor league player.

Reports: The Milwaukee Brewers pushing for former AL MVP and longtime Tiger Justin Verlander.

TRADE: The Seattle Mariners send prospects Brandon Miller, Brayan Hernandez, Lukas Schiraldi and Pablo Lopez for Marlins relief pitcher David Phelps.

OFFICIAL: The New York Yankees have re-acquired David Robertson, as well as acquire Tommy Kahnle and Todd Frazier from the White Sox for Blake Rutherford, Tito Polo, Ian Clarkin and veteran Tyler Clippard.

Reports: Ian Clarkin and vet reliever Tyler Clippard are also a part of the package that would send Robertson back to the Bronx, alongside Todd Frazier and Tommy Kahnle. Nothing official as of yet, but according to reports the deal thus far is Kahnle/Frazier/Robertson to NYY; Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard to the Southside of Chicago.

Yankee-Robertson Reunion Update: Todd Frazier is closer to being dealt than he has been since Cincinnati traded him for Scott Schebler. He is in a package alongside Tommy Kahnle and David Robertson. Robertson is the Yankees former closer, as he replaced Mariano Rivera; and gives them 3 different options with Chapman and Betances. Blake Rutherford is the prospect the White Sox package is centered around. Kahnle is currently warming up in the Sox pen during the game against the Dodgers.

Frazier Update: The Red Sox are not going to acquire the self-professed “Todd-Father”, per Evan Drellich (BoSox Insider).

BREAKING: The Yankees are about to swoop in and take Robertson and Frazier from the Sox. Tommy Kahnle is also involved and it’s between the two teams.

Frazier Update: The Boston Red Sox are very close to acquiring him AND All-Star closer David Robertson.

Reports: Todd Frazier has been scratched from the White Sox lineup and seen giving everybody on the team a hug prior to first pitch against the Dodgers. He’s likely been traded, unknown to who. Probably Boston.

Martinez update: The Diamondbacks have officially acquired JD Martinez after passing his physical. The former Tigers’ slugger (.306 AVG, 16 HR) was pulled from the game yesterday and has officially been traded to Arizona for infield prospects Dawel Lugo, Sergio Alcantara and Jose King.

BLOCKBUSTER TRADe: The Tigers and Diamondbacks agree to trade All-Star Right Fielder JD Martinez. Full details as they become available. Pending physicals, Martinez has been dealt for multiple prospects per Jon Morosi. The prospects are unknown at this time.

Transactions: The Rays have designated Reliever Jumbo Diaz for assignment; recalled Chase Whitley from AAA Durham. Meanwhile, The Colorado Rockies have optioned Raimel Tapia to AAA Albuquerque. Though he’s htiting .314, they have optioned him to recall Antonio Senzatela. Senzatela will start tonight with Ian Desmond or Gerardo Parra taking his spot in left. It’s likely that Tapia will be back up soon. The Minnesota Twins have optioned Kenny Vargas and moved pitcher Phil Hughes to the 60-Day DL. They’ve also re-instated Craig Breslow from the disabled list and called up Bartolo Colon for a spot start in his Twins debut. The 44 year old has played for 9 different Major League teams prior to the Twins and will start tonight against one of his former employers (Yankees).

TRADE: The Tampa Bay Rays have traded for Chaz Roe from the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations. Roe, 30, first came to the Majors with the Diamondbacks and has since been a journeyman; seeing MLB playing time with The New York Yankees,  Baltimore Orioles and The Braves. He has been assigned to AAA Durham, however, is placed on the 60-Day DL. This opens up another option for TB to call up amidst a September Playoff Chase.

INJURY: Astros SS and potential MVP Carlos Correa out 2-months due to an injury to the wrist. Without a sufficient backup for Correa, they’ll likely either shift Jose Altuve to SS and start Marwin Gonzalez at 2B or they’ll deal for a SS such as Zack Cozart who’s a pending free agent. A player such as Cozart is a perfect match for a team such as Houston as he’s a pending free agent and they have the farmsystem to outbid for Cozart. Cozart started for the National League in the All-Star Game earlier this month and has a stellar .390 OBP. He’d also give you the best pinch hitting option available assuming Correa’s back by October.

Reports: Yankees bid on Oakland’s All-Star 1B Yonder Alonso. Alonso is enjoying a career-year with his 1st 20 HR season and an OBP higher than his career OBP. The Yankees have horrible luck at 1B this year due to the injuries to Greg Bird and abysmalness of 2016 NL Homerun Leader Chris Carter.

Update on Neshek: Per MLB Trade Rumors, Phillies, who will be shopping 2x All-Star Pat Neshek are listening to offers on the righty reliever. The 3 teams in the running are The Brewers, Yankees and Rays. There is no clear-cut favorite at the time being.

Reports: The Baltimore Orioles are listening to offers on All-Star closer Zack Britton. Though he is not necessarily going to be traded, relief pitching is in high demand this season. Notably, the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox and The New York Yankees are all in the quest for relievers. It is, however, unlikely that a guy like Britton would be traded to a division counterpart. The O’s are also listening to teams on offers for All-Star SU’s Darren O’Day and Brad Brach. Almost any position player is available, but OF Seth Smith is the guy they’d be most willing to part with.

Reports: The Tampa Bay Rays asked about relief help (Kyle Barraclough, AJ Ramos) when negotiating the deal that sent Adeiny Hechavarria up north across the state. Though those talks were unsuccessful, TB has once again checked in on Miami’s stellar bullpen. Multiple teams, including the Marlins, have asked about top prospects Willy Adames and Brent Honeywell during discussions.  The highly-rated Honeywell seems like an untouchable prospect, however, he’s more expendable than most because of the young pitching influx in TBs system.

Rumor: Rockies are one of the teams currently bidding for Tigers OF JD Martinez.

Sunday, July 16th: The Oakland Athletics Trade Relief Pitchers Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle to The Washington Nationals for Closer Blake Trienen and prospects Jesus Lazardo, Sheldon Neuse.

Notable trades that have already happened:

  • The Chicago White Sox trade LHP Jose Quintana to the Northside Chicago Cubs for Prospects Dylan Cease, Matt Rose, Bryant Flete and Eloy Jiminez.
  • The Miami Marlins trade SS Adeiny Hechavarria to The Tampa Bay Rays for prospects Ethan Clark and Braxton Lee.

As we inch closer and closer to the MLB Trade Deadline, things are about to get really interesting as we figure out which teams are buyers and which teams are sellers. AL teams such as Boston, Tampa Bay, Cleveland and Houston have solidified themselves as playoff teams with approximately 70 games left in the MLB season, while teams such as Washington, Milwaukee, Los Angeles and Arizona have done so on the National League side of things. While things can still change, we have a pretty decent idea of who are buyers and who are sellers. With that said, let’s begin our trade frenzy.
